Is the promise to plant “a billion trees” is a good suggestion? | EUROtoday

The query of the week
“Hello, do you know where we are for the billion trees planted in France to capture the Co₂?” And does it work as an concept? »» Question requested by Brigitte on the HUNMAN HUPER deal with@lemonde.fr
My reply: The promise to plant 1 billion timber by 2032 is just not very nicely dedicated. Above all, the way in which of doing it’s fairly ineffective: to plant new timber, we minimize current plots. The local weather and biodiversity evaluation is just not excellent.
1/Where are we of this promise?
After the vital fires of the summer season of 2022, Emmanuel Macron is dedicated to launching a big plan for the French forest: “Our CAP is to have the ability to replant a billion timber in ten years. (…) It is renewing 10 % of our forest. This is what we now have to do. »» (You can discover his assertion right here.)
Three years later, the tempo is just not precisely the best one, if we consider the information made public by the federal government. For the time being, round 80 million timber have been planted, between January 2023 and January 2025, with public funds. The first step to be reached is 467 million timber planted with public funds in December 2026 – which signifies that will probably be essential to hurry to maintain these commitments, if that is nonetheless topical. (See right here the quantified particulars.)
