An picture of Trump in full papal regalia — white cassock, headpiece and gold crucifix — was posted on-line Friday by the president and on official White House social media accounts.
Catholic officers variously described the depiction as “deeply offensive,” “sad” and “unfortunate.”

When requested by a reporter Monday about Catholics who is likely to be sad with the picture, Trump shot again that it was the “fake news” who “can’t take a joke.”
“The Catholics loved it,” he insisted.
The president went on: “I have no idea where it came from. Maybe it was AI, but I know nothing about it. I just saw it last evening. Actually, my wife thought it was cute.”
Trump then mulled how the papacy may have an effect on his marriage.
“To the best of my knowledge, popes aren’t big on getting married,” he stated with a smile to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who was standing subsequent to Trump for an occasion confirming the 2027 draft will happen in Washington, D.C.
When pressed on whether or not the White House posting a picture of Trump as pope undermined its credibility, the president replied, “Give me a break.”
