Labour accuse Tories of ‘made-up tax row’ after putting £25bn India commerce deal

Labour has accused Tory chief Kemi Badenoch of confecting a “made-up row” over the newly-struck India commerce deal to “distract from her failure” to safe the same settlement.

Hailed as a “landmark” settlement by Sir Keir Starmer, the federal government introduced on Monday that it had reached a deal to spice up bilateral commerce with India by £25bn – in what marks Britain’s largest post-Brexit commerce settlement.

While Boris Johnson famously promised to make such an settlement by Diwali in October 2022, an India commerce deal has remained elusive for UK successive prime ministers.
