Britain on Thursday agreed to switch sovereignty of the strategically situated Chagos Islands to Mauritius, resolving a long-standing colonial-era dispute. The Indian Ocean archipelago is house to an essential naval and bomber base on the most important of the islands, Diego Garcia, operated by US forces and essential for British counterterrorism and intelligence.
