Whole meals meals distributor hit by cyberattack – and it’d depart grocery cabinets empty | EUROtoday

United Natural Foods Inc., the first meals distributor for Whole Foods, was hit with a cyberattack that will depart some grocery retailer cabinets empty.

The meals firm stated Monday it grew to become conscious of “unauthorized activity” on a few of its IT programs, prompting the provider to take some companies offline.

With the programs down – and no rapid time for them to be again up and working – inventory on Whole Foods’ cabinets might quickly be sparse. The laptop system was used to attach prospects – akin to Whole Foods – to the provider and get deliveries of products.

A Whole Foods spokesperson informed The Independent that they’re “working to restock our shelves as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused for customers.”

In an SEC submitting, the meals firm stated it seen the weird exercise final week and instantly applied containment measures. The firm stated it notified legislation enforcement and is presently investigating the incident.

“We are assessing the unauthorized activity and working to restore our systems to safely bring them back online,” the corporate stated in an announcement. “As we work through this issue, our customers, suppliers, and associates are our highest priority. We are working closely with them to minimize disruption as much as possible.”

Last 12 months, the meals firm and Whole Foods signed an eight-year extension of their deal to be the grocery store’s major distributor, based on Axios.

Issues with deliveries from the provider had been detailed in a Reddit put up.

“We got our Saturday truck at 2 a.m. Sunday morning, with no way to scan it in to the store receiving tool and none of the typical UNFI paperwork. They are saying no cycle counts or orders until further notice. This seems bad, to say the least,” the poster wrote.

Someone claiming to be a meals firm worker commented that they “literally cannot do anything network related.”

“At a complete standstill. This is catastrophic to the business. This is a company-wide issue that affects business at all levels. This is really some crazy s***,” the worker wrote.

Another individual claiming to work for United Natural Foods Inc. stated work has been canceled the final two days.

“Apparently our whole system is down right now. We haven’t been told everything, just that we can’t come into work,” they wrote.
