A meals redistribution charity says it’s struggling to deal with demand for many who need assistance throughout Cumbria.
Fareshare provides thousands and thousands of meals for communities throughout the nation that are given out free of charge or at a diminished price.
Three hundred tonnes (300,000kg) of surplus meals was delivered throughout Cumbria final 12 months, the charity says.
Naomi Winter, a Fareshare coordinator, stated assist was wanted to get extra vans on the street to fulfill demand within the area.
She stated the necessity free of charge and closely discounted meals because the Covid-19 pandemic had been “unprecedented.”
“For Carlisle in particular, two vans come on a Wednesday because there’s such a need here,” she stated.
“We would like to be able to put six more deliveries to the Carlisle area because we do have a few requests for that, but we don’t have any space in our vans to achieve that at the moment.”

For Leanne Hackett, who has a five-year-old daughter, it makes a distinction.

The charity is appealing for help from local charities and businesses so they can get three vans on the road to reach more people who need them in Carlisle and Cumbria.
Ms Winter said: “We want extra charities to come back on and we additionally want extra meals from the Cumbria space as a result of we have needed to cut back the quantity of meals that we give to every charity as a result of provide is not assembly demand anymore.”
