Protection of LGBTQ: Queer officer calls for modification to the Basic Law | EUROtoday

The Federal Government’s queer officer, Sophie Koch (SPD), has complained a couple of large improve in hostility to LGBTQ+individuals and warned of cultural struggles. “I have the feeling that we will again discuss the existence of gender diversity again than it was the case a few years ago,” stated Koch of the “Rheinische Post” (Tuesday). “When people deny queer people the existence, society has to say: Stop, this is against the values of our democracy,” she emphasised.

“My goal is therefore that Article 3 of the Basic Law on Protection of Discrimination also protects the right queer people,” stated Koch, who can be a member of the SPD member of the state parliament in Dresden. “It is not okay that queer people as one of the few victim groups of National Socialism are still not protected in Article 3. With regard to the USA or Hungary, we see how quickly authoritarian strengths are trying to restrict our rights again,” warned Koch.

Koch additionally complained that there are “fights about questions that I thought were already done. They are mainly managed by right wing,” she instructed the newspaper. “If we do not end the cultural struggle, we will experience that what has long been achieved will be reversed.”
