A Florida lady fought off a five-foot alligator together with her naked palms after it attacked her four-month-old pet.

Danie Wright was strolling her pup, Dax, behind her Land O’ Lakes residence final week when the gator tried to grab up her furry pal.

“I heard a squeal, and I got pulled,” she instructed native information outlet WTSP.

She mentioned the gator dragged Dax by his collar, “and I wasn’t gonna let go.”

The gator got here 15 ft out of the water in its failed try to catch the pup. Wright mentioned she didn’t see the lurking reptile at first.

When her pet was pulled into a close-by creek, Wright’s instincts kicked in.

“I just punched him, punched and punched,” she mentioned. “I punched him in the eye enough that he kind of let go, he unclamped a little, and I pulled off.”

Wright was injured through the combat. The gator’s tooth “dragged down my arm,” she mentioned.

“Just be careful with your dogs, you know these alligators are no joke,” Wright mentioned, advising different canine house owners to “leave your phone at home” to restrict distractions on walks.

As for the destiny of the gator, it was caught and faraway from Wright’s property by trappers and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers, per WTSP.

The Independent has reached out to the fee for additional updates on the gator.

The fee has beforehand warned to maintain pets on a leash and a “safe distance” away from water, as your furry associates can “resemble alligators’ natural prey.”

As of May, there have been two “major” alligator bites on folks in Florida in 2025, in keeping with the fee’s statistics.
