President Donald Trump supplied well-wishes to reporters aboard Air Force One as he returned to the United States following his state go to to the United Kingdom.

But he then added a remark that critics stated proved his self-centeredness.

“Thank you, everybody. Have a good flight. Fly safely,” Trump instructed the press pool after railing in opposition to late night time comedians who mock him, amid the uproar over ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel.

Then he added: “You know why I say that? Because I’m on the flight. Otherwise I wouldn’t care.”

The quip, which Trump delivered with a smile, went viral on social media.

And whereas Trump’s supporters dismissed it as playful banter from the president, it instantly drew accusations of narcissism and extra.

Earlier Thursday, a helicopter carrying Trump to London’s Stansted Airport made an sudden touchdown after experiencing what the White House described as a “minor hydraulic issue.”
