“Based on some fast time assessments conducted on our systems, this individual does not appear to be known to Counter Terrorism Policing, however he does have a non-CT related criminal history. This includes a recent arrest for rape, which resulted in him being bailed.”

Family of Melvin Cravitz pay tribute to man who ‘would do something to assist anybody’

The household of Melvin Cravitz have paid tribute to the “kind and caring man” who was killed in yesterday’s terror assault.

The 66-year-old, from Crumpsall, was the safety guard who labored on the synagogue and stopped the attacker from coming into the constructing.

His household mentioned in a tribute: “Melvin would do anything to help anyone. He was so kind, caring and always wanted to chat and get to know people.

“He was devoted to his wife, family and loved his food. He will be sorely missed by his wife, family, friends and community.

“We ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with this shocking loss.”

Friends of Melvin Cravitz pay tribute

Friends of one of many victims of the assault, Melvin Cravitz, have paid tribute to the 66-year-old.

Andy Kordas, who lived near Mr Cravitz for a few years, mentioned he final noticed him two days in the past and he “always had a kind word”.

The 71-year-old mentioned: “He always used to come over and have a chat and ask me what I was up to.

“He all the time had a smile on his face. It’s simply horrible.”

Another neighbour, Bilal Ahmad, said Mr Cravitz was a “very good man” and “very calm”.

“He would all the time say hey if you got here previous,” the 55-year-old mentioned.
