Rachel Reeves shouldn’t stand down after admitting she failed to use for a licence to hire out her residence, a minister has stated.

Asked if Ms Reeves ought to resign, policing minister Sarah Jones informed Times Radio: “No, she shouldn’t.

“She after the election, after all, moved into 11 Downing Street, as chancellors do. She has a household residence in Southwark that she rented out by means of a letting company. Now, Southwark Council has what’s known as a selective licensing scheme.

“Some boroughs have them, some don’t … The Chancellor wasn’t aware that she had to apply for this selective licence. As soon as she became aware, she rectified the situation.

“She utilized for that licence, and she or he informed the Prime Minister, and she or he informed the impartial adviser on requirements.”
