Jade Hunter stated the baskets will “lighten the load” for households at her college this Christmas

A headteacher stated individuals’s generosity was “mind-blowing” after sufficient funds had been raised to make a Christmas hamper for each youngster at her college.

Pupils at West Earlham Infant and Nursery School in Norwich will every be gifted a mix of books, toys, hygiene merchandise, sweets, coats and scarves.

The fundraising was spearheaded by former educating assistant Annie Jennings and private coach Lewis Wardale, who raised greater than £4,000 to create 280 hampers.

Headteacher Jade Hunter stated: “Cost of living is hard for so many people, but there is so much generosity and goodwill out there that I haven’t encountered anything like this before. I have been genuinely speechless at times.”

Ms Jennings needed to lift cash and gather donations to deal with the kids and requested Mr Wardale if he needed to become involved.

He stated: “I did some previous fundraising before… I know the power of the community and coming together for a good cause.

“It has shocked me. I believe the world may be fairly unfavourable proper now. I do know the individuals of Norwich are actually good, and when there is a good trigger, individuals actually again it.”

Ms Hunter said initially they were hoping to make the hampers for a few families who had been identified as needing extra support.

However, as the project progressed, they set their sights higher to be able to make enough for each child.

She said: “We know that the price of dwelling is admittedly hitting all households, however significantly the households on a set revenue… it’s at all times good to have the ability to lighten the load for households.

“To know every child and family in the school will be touched by this is such a lovely thing to do.

“It’s very nice to have the ability to do a school-wide provide that is only for everybody. No stigma. No strings.”
