Winter storm brings journey chaos to Northeast with flights halted at airports | EUROtoday
Winter climate blasting the Northeast on Sunday noticed floor stops put in place at New York’s fundamental airports and Philadelphia International Airport.
The floor cease meant that departing flights had been briefly paused at their terminal gates, inflicting prolonged delays for incoming and departing flights.
According to the FAA, the stops started at New York’s JFK and LaGuardia at round 8am ET and had been anticipated to be lifted at round 10.30am ET.
More than 1,000 flights coming into JFK have now been delayed, acknowledged the FAA.
“Due to snow or ice, this is causing some arriving flights [into JFK] to be delayed an average of three hours and 16 minutes, not exceeding four hours and 53 minutes,” the FAA mentioned.
As of 9am Sunday, New York City noticed round 1.1 inches of snow, with LaGuardia International Airport reporting 2.6 inches, in line with The Weather Channel.
More than 700 flights had been delayed at Philadelphia International Airport, in line with FOX5.
Newark Liberty International Airport noticed floor delays as nicely, with a mean delay for flights into the airport of 170 minutes, with most delays of 267 minutes.
The winter storm is anticipated to clear by Sunday afternoon, however temperatures will stay beneath freezing. A gradual warm-up will happen by way of the week with temperatures anticipated to be inthe 50s by Thursday.
