Five councillors have defected from Labour to the Greens in a blow to Sir Keir Starmer. Green Party chief Zack Polanski vowed that his get together is able to “bury” Labour at subsequent 12 months’s native elections as he welcomed the London councillors.

Councillors Farah, Moghaddam, Ethapemi and Gbajumo have been deselected as Labour candidates earlier this 12 months.

Ms Mitchell mentioned the group had felt unable to characterize their communities as Labour members.

The rise has also prompted speculation that Labour MPs could jump ship.
But Mr Polanski played down the prospect of that happening, saying: “What I’m actually concentrating and centered on, truly, is profitable Green councils and Green MPs for the very first time, reasonably than defectors.
