Netflix subscribers have been left “dazzled” by a gripping new science fiction thriller that premiered this Friday (nineteenth December).

Set in a dystopian future, this South Korean catastrophe movie paints a grim image of a world on the point of submersion beneath a colossal flood.

As humanity teeters on the sting of extinction, a mom armed with a plan to save lots of Earth battles towards time and rising water ranges in her condominium constructing to make sure her kid’s survival.

A deal with for Ok-drama fanatics, The Great Flood boasts a star-studded solid that includes Kim Da-mi of Itaewon Class fame and Park Hae-soo from Netflix’s smash hit Squid Game.

Since its launch, the movie has left audiences gasping for breath and, in some situations, decreased to tears by its harrowing story of survival, stories the Mirror.

The accolades poured in on Letterboxd, with one devoted viewer awarding the image an ideal 5 stars, gushing: “The visuals were crazy in the best way. At first, it felt like The Day After Tomorrow, then it slowly shifted into Interstellar territory.

“Somewhere within the center, it jogged my memory of Wonderland, and by the tip, I saved fascinated with Distant Sky. Every a part of it clicked for me. I do not say this calmly. This film stayed with me after it ended.”

Meanwhile, another enthusiast declared it “Easily among the finest films of 2025”.

Digital outlet Baap of Movies hailed the production as a “Korean Apocalypse That Dazzles, Divides, and Drifts into Dark Sci-Fi” in their glowing assessment.

The publication also commended its “daring” concepts and narrative leaps, highlighting its “daring” shifts in genre and a “stranger and extra sinister” end result than audiences might anticipate.

The Guardian similarly described the sci-fi thriller as “sinister”, observing: “Making this sci-fi swerve, Kim [Byung-woo, director] has clearly closely imbibed from Edge of Tomorrow, Charlie Kaufman’s psychological mazes and maybe additionally – with mega-tsunamis gathering on the horizon and the presiding maudlin-apocalyptic tone – Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.”

Gulf News captured the overall sentiment perfectly: “If you take pleasure in genre-bending thrillers with excessive stakes, rising waters, and pulse-pounding suspense, The Great Flood is well worth the dive.”
