The crash on the M1 comes as freezing climate continues to grip the UK. The Met Office has issued a yellow climate warning for ice, which covers Rugby and Birmingham, from 12am till 10am tomorrow (Wednesday, January 7).

Forecasters are warning of journey disruption as a consequence of icy roads. They are urging motorists to watch out.

The Met Office says: “Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.”

It provides: “Give your self the most effective probability of avoiding delays by checking highway situations if driving, or bus and prepare timetables, amending your journey plans if crucial.
