US army carries out strikes in opposition to ISIS targets in Syria | EUROtoday

The U.S. army has confirmed it performed a sequence of airstrikes in opposition to the Islamic State militant group in Syria on Saturday, as a part of an ongoing operation initiated in December following an assault on American personnel.

These strikes are a part of broader efforts by a U.S.-led coalition, which has been conducting each aerial and floor operations in opposition to suspected ISIS members throughout Syria in current months, ceaselessly together with Syrian safety forces.

In an announcement, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed: “The strikes today targeted ISIS throughout Syria,” noting they came about within the early afternoon, U.S. Eastern Time.

However, CENTCOM’s assertion didn’t specify if there have been any casualties. The Pentagon has thus far declined to supply additional particulars, and the State Department didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.

Saturday’s assaults have been a part of an operation launched final month after Islamic State militants killed U.S. army personnel in Syria, CENTCOM stated. The U.S. army stated two American troopers and a civilian interpreter have been killed in that December 13 incident.

“Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice,” US Central Command stated in an announcement.

In December the US launched a large-scale strike that hit 70 targets throughout central Syria that had IS infrastructure and weapons. About 1,000 U.S. troops stay within the nation.

Syria’s authorities is led by ex-rebels who toppled former President Bashar al-Assad in 2024 after a 13-year civil struggle, and contains members of Syria’s former Al Qaeda department who broke with the group and clashed with Islamic State.

Syria has been cooperating with a U.S.-led coalition in opposition to Islamic State, reaching an settlement late final 12 months when President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited the White House.
