Jan 17 (Reuters) – The Trump administration has deserted its proposal to merge the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives into the Drug Enforcement Administration after opposition from gun-rights and gun-control teams, CNN reported on Saturday, citing folks briefed on the matter.

The reversal comes because the White House seeks Senate affirmation for Robert Cekada, the ATF’s deputy director, to function everlasting director, the report mentioned.

The merger plan was half of a bigger shakeup introduced final 12 months by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to shrink federal companies and sharply streamline the federal government.
