“Virtual girlfriend” purposes are exploding, girls (and males) are proposing to their chatbot, and “AI companions” can be found 24 hours a day. According to an Ifop survey for Libération, 8% of French folks have already had erotic conversations with an AI. Between the promise of emotional help and the chance of emotional habit, a dizzying query arises: can we actually fall in love with an AI? This may cause us, warns MIT psychologist Sherry Turkle, to draw back from the complexity of actual relationships.
