“Maybe we should have put NATO to the test: Invoked Article 5, and forced NATO to come here and protect our Southern Border from further Invasions of Illegal Immigrants, thus freeing up large numbers of Border Patrol Agents for other tasks,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Thursday evening.

Trump has certainly already examined the NATO alliance along with his push to accumulate Greenland, the Arctic island managed by Denmark, a fellow NATO member.

Article 5 states that if one NATO member is attacked, all members ought to come to its help. NATO troops fought in Afghanistan alongside U.S. troopers towards al Qaeda and the Taliban.

“We get along very well with NATO, I think, but I’ve always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? And that’s really the ultimate test,” Trump stated. “I’m not sure of that. I know that we would have been there or we would be there, but will they be there?”

Trump added, “We’ve never needed them. We have never really asked anything of them. You know, they’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan or this or that, and they did. They stayed a little back, a little off the frontlines.”
