Six months after the introduction of the nationwide cellular phone ban in all public faculties, the Hessian Ministry of Culture is drawing constructive interim conclusions. “The distracting effect of cell phones in everyday school life and lessons is over,” says a spokesman. The extreme cellular phone presence is usually a cause for psychological issues and cyberbullying amongst younger individuals. “Cell phone off – head on: We want the students to talk to each other more again instead of chatting alone on their cell phones,” emphasizes the spokesman.
The state pupil council in Hesse continues to be crucial of the regulation. The ban was aimed toward considerably lowering using smartphones by college students and, specifically, at curbing harmful media use. “We have not been able to determine either of these in the last six months,” experiences state college spokesman Laurenz Spies. Neither smartphone use nor harmful media consumption will be decreased by banning cell telephones at school.
