Few mayors escape the pitfalls. Reims councilor Arnaud Robinet, who left Les Républicains in 2021 to hitch Horizons, is not any exception to the rule. Critics have been raining down on this “quinqua” since he determined to demolish a highway bridge within the metropolis heart.

The folks of Rémois have been conscious of the challenge to redevelop the banks of the canal which, with the motorway, cuts Reims in two. But nobody imagined that its realization would imply the disappearance of the previous Charles-de-Gaulle bridge, one of many three artistic endeavors which give the connection between the working-class neighborhoods, to the south, and town heart. Despite the protests, Arnaud Robinet remained rigid: the bridge – “a wart that came into a cul-de-sac”in response to him – disappeared in 2024.

Its demolition didn’t enhance the lives of motorists, whose habits have been disrupted by a brand new site visitors and parking plan.
