The Jewish neighborhood in north London has been left “completely shocked” and “scared” after 4 ambulances had been set alight outdoors a synagogue in an antisemitic hate crime.

CCTV reveals three people settling gentle to the automobiles in Highfield Road in Golders Green at round 1.45am, with no accidents reported.

Jewish neighborhood leaders have condemned the assault, with the Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis saying the focusing on of the volunteer service was “particularly sickening”.

Metropolitan Police spokesperson Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams stated “there have been no arrests at this early stage”, and added: “While this has not been declared a terrorist incident at this stage, the investigation is now being led by Counter Terrorism Policing.”

Speaking to The Independent, a passerby, Dov Forman, 22, stated he was relieved his great-grandmother and Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert was not alive to witness the incident.

“My great grandmother was an Auschwitz survivor,” he stated. “She moved to this country after the Holocaust to rebuild her life. She rebuilt from the ashes.

“She lived directly opposite the site of the attack, and she would have been completely devastated because it would have completely shattered that thought that the UK was a safe place for her and her family to live.”

Local residents had been awoken to the sound of explosions, which had been brought on by oxygen canisters onboard the ambulances.

He added that many individuals inside his neighborhood might be questioning if the UK is a “safe place to be a visible Jew”, and that lots of his mates had already concluded it not was.

“I think we’re seeing the levels of antisemitism that many would have experienced decades ago, that many in this country thought would never be possible,” he stated.

“Our non-Jewish friends, our non-Jewish neighbours, our colleagues would stand up for us, would stand up against this hatred that has run ultimately rampant and unchecked and unchallenged across society over the past two-and-a-half years. That hatred has led to the complete marginalisation, delegitimisation, dehumanisation of the Jewish people in the UK.

“We’ve been pushed to the margins. The weekly marches where chants for an intifada have been allowed to go every single week have led to incidents like this, and ultimately it is also the responsibility of not just this Labour government, but also successive governments who failed to root out the ideological cause of this.”

Shomrim, a Jewish neighborhood security patrol group, stated the automobiles belonged to charity Hatzola, which remained absolutely operational.

Hatzola, which was established in 1979 and is run by volunteers, gives free medical transportation and emergency response to these residing in north London.

Speaking to The Independent, Damon Hoff, the president of the close by Machzike Hadath Synagogue, stated the explosions woke him and his household, and described the incident as an “attack on anything decent”.

He stated: “This is the deepest heart of the Jewish community, and it’s an unbelievable vulnerability because it’s your way of life and it’s an attack on everything that you stand for.”

Mr Hoff added that historic stain glass home windows on the synagogue had been broken by the fireplace, in addition to smoke harm to the roof of the constructing.

Since transferring to the UK 17 years in the past, Mr Hoff stated he not feels protected sporting his kippah (cranium cap) when strolling within the West End.

Another native resident Gedale Weinberg, 56, was equally awoken and stated that his spouse started to cry upon listening to a second explosion.

“They destroyed four ambulances, possibly five written off, destroyed them,” he stated. “Ambulances which cater not only to Jews but to Sikhs, to Muslims, to Christians, to Buddhists, to anyone who needs help, free of charge and to take them to hospital.

“This was a strategic, heinous, spiteful, pathetic, disgusting act what they did. They knew exactly what they were doing, had to cripple us.”

Mr Weinberg, who has lived in Golders Green since 1969, stated the realm had modified “dramatically for the worse” and stated that he was working for Reform UK as an area councillor within the May elections.

“If I wouldn’t be running for office, I’d pack up and leave,” he stated.

Peter Zinkin, the Conservative councillor for Golders Green, added: “What I feel about it is deep upset. With all of the attacks on the community over the last few years, it isn’t in one sense a surprise that this has happened.

“It’s just a deep sadness, and deep sadness leads to upset. But the important question is why did it happen?

“And in my view, the reason that it happened is because in this country we have very sadly validated antisemitism, and I hold both the media and the government accountable for that.”

The Chief Rabbi stated in a press release on X (previously Twitter): “The deliberate arson attacks against Hatzola ambulances in London are a particularly sickening assault – not only on the Jewish community, but on the values we share as a society.

“Our Hatzola volunteer ambulance corps is an extraordinary service, whose sole mission is to protect life, Jewish and non-Jewish alike.

“The targeting of Hatzola by people so committed to terror, hatred and the desecration of life is a most painful illustration of the ongoing battle between those who sanctify life and those who seek to destroy it.

“At a time when Jewish communities around the world are facing a growing pattern of these violent attacks, we will meet this moment with shared resolve and stand together against hatred and intimidation.”
