A two-year-old boy was killed by a household pal reversing into their driveway, an inquest has heard. Rufus Davies suffered deadly head accidents close to Marlborough, Wiltshire, in May final 12 months. The toddler was along with his household visiting mates when the collision occurred, Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court was instructed. Rufus’s mom, Olivia Davies, let him out of the automobile as Tamsin Hayward approached the driveway, the courtroom heard.

“I told Rufus that Tamsin had arrived, and he was so excited to see her, he wriggled to get out of the car,” Mrs Davies mentioned in a written assertion. “I opened the driver’s door and helped him down. He ran round the back of the car. “I then ran to the back of my car and saw Rufus laying on the floor.”

Mrs Hayward mentioned she reversed her Porsche Macan onto the driveway, which she normally did.

“I always drive very slowly in through the gate and into the drive,” she mentioned. “Olivia and her daughter were standing on the grass outside their car on the driver’s side. I was really happy to see them and waved at them and said ‘hello’ as I drove in and had my driver’s window down.

“I knew that Rufus was additionally coming that day, however he wasn’t standing with Olivia and her daughter on the motive force’s facet or anyplace to be seen on the driveway after I drove in. I drove ahead into the driveway, transferring anti-clockwise across the grass round island on my driveway.

“The bump I felt was on the passenger’s rear side of the car. I exited the car and saw a child lying on the gravel. To my horror I realised the gravity of the situation, and that Rufus must have been running behind me whilst I was reversing.

“I then noticed Olivia working in the direction of the again of the automobile with a glance of horror on her face. I known as 999 instantly.”

PC Alexander Way, a collision investigator, said no faults were found with the car and Mrs Hayward tested negative for both drugs and alcohol.

He said: “The case has failed the Crown Prosecution Service threshold for any prosecution below the Road Traffic Act as the situation will not be deemed a public place or street, and the driving will not be deemed below present case regulation as careless. It’s an especially tragic incident with essentially the most devastating of outcomes.”

A post-mortem found Rufus had died from a diffuse traumatic head injury.

Ian Singleton, the area coroner for Wiltshire and Swindon, recorded a conclusion of misadventure.

“Rufus was so excited to see Tamsin that he needed to get out of the automobile, so he was helped down and ran across the again of his mom’s automobile, unwittingly into the trail of Tamsin’s automobile,” he mentioned.
