US President Donald Trump has launched a recent assault on the ‘corrupt’ BBC, alleging they attributed remarks to him that have been ‘so horrible’.

Trump referenced his lawsuit in opposition to the BBC throughout his deal with on the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) annual fundraising dinner at Washington D.C.’s Union Station.

He mentioned: “They had me saying things that I never said, that were terrible.

“They put phrases in my mouth. Sentences and paragraphs so horrible.”

The US President alluded to the heavily scrutinised Panorama episode broadcast in 2024, which appeared to depict him inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol building in 2021.

In the programme, a clip from Mr Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021 was edited to show him saying: “We’re going to stroll all the way down to the Capitol… and I’ll be there with you. And we struggle. We struggle like hell.”

The edit removed a section where he stated they should march “peacefully”.

The furore surrounding the broadcast resulted in the resignation of BBC director general Tim Davie and BBC News chief Deborah Turness.

At the time of his resignation, Mr Davie acknowledged there had “been some errors made” and that he had to “take final duty”.

In his speech on Wednesday, March 25 Trump added: “They admitted they have been responsible.”

“That’s how crooked they’re.” He tackled the concept of ‘fake news’, informing the audience that he has previously received payments from other news outlets.

Trump stated: “CBS needed to pay me $38 million for what they mentioned. If you deliver lawsuits in opposition to these guys, they’re so corrupt that they’ll pay it.”
