French cement maker Lafarge discovered responsible of financing terrorism in Syria | EUROtoday

The firm wished to keep up its actions in Syria, then ravaged by battle. On Monday April 13, the Paris courtroom convicted the French cement producer Lafarge in addition to eight former executives for financing terrorism. The firm was discovered responsible of paying cash to jihadist teams in 2013 and 2014 to permit their manufacturing unit in Syria to proceed working within the midst of battle.
The firm, since swallowed by the Swiss firm Holcim, made funds to 3 jihadist organizations together with the Islamic State (IS) group, to the tune of almost 5.6 million euros, the prison courtroom established in its judgment. This cash allowed them to “prepare terrorist attacks”, notably these of January 2015 in France.
“This method of financing terrorist organizations, and primarily ISIS, was essential as a participant in the terrorist organization’s control over the natural resources of Syria, having allowed it to finance terrorist acts in the area and planned abroad, particularly in Europe,” underlined the president of the courtroom, Isabelle Prévost-Desprez.
