Andreas Pinheiro, president of the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ affiliation, stated “the situation is deadlocked”. “The situation remains unchanged – there is absolutely no movement on the part of the employers. Neither Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo have made an offer regarding company pension schemes, nor has Lufthansa CityLine made a viable offer for a new collective bargaining agreement on remuneration, nor has Eurowings made any offer regarding company pension schemes,” he added.

“We are not concerned with power struggles or egoism, but with sustainable solutions,” he additionally stated.

The VC’s message on its website also read: “Should the employers settle for the mediation proposal, the Cockpit Association will promptly submit options for an appropriate mediator.”

These strikes, just like the previous ones which ended today (April 14), concern pension arrangements and working conditions.

They have resulted so far in the cancellation of over 1,000 flights. Numerous flights have already been cancelled today, with a number of UK airports hit by the disruption. It is believed that more than 4,500 passengers expected to travel to and from the UK today have already been affected.

Several flights from London Heathrow, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh, all going to Frankfurt or Munich, were cancelled today.

Lufthansa said it will be operating around one-third of their total short-haul schedule, whilst half of their long-haul routes will be cancelled.

Meanwhile, Eurowings will operate 60% of its schedule. Some 570 landings and take-offs have been cancelled at Frankfurt Airport so far, affecting more than 50,000 passengers.

Elsewhere, at Munich Airport, roughly 720 flight cancellations have been reported over the latest two days of the strike.
