The child woman who died after an alleged canine assault has been named, an inquest heard. Maggie May Ann Moody was sadly pronounced lifeless on April 9 at James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

An inquest into her demise, which opened at Teesside Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, April 21, heard the infant woman was at some point away from marking her three-month milestone. Paul Appleton, space coroner for Teesside and Hartlepool, stated through the quick listening to at Middlesbrough Town Hall: “At 1.33pm on April 9, 2026, Cleveland Police force received a 999 call from the ambulance service reporting they required assistance with an incident, in Hardale Grove in Redcar. [They were] responding to a child not breathing and the child had been attacked by a dog.

“The ambulance service supplied directions by way of the phone on methods to present CPR till emergency service staff arrived. I’m instructed there have been two canine current on the handle, which was on Hardale Grove.

“Initial accounts provided to my officer have indicated that the dogs were originally in the rear garden but then made their way into the room where Maggie was located.”

Following a put up mortem, the provisional medical reason behind demise at this stage is “head injury”. The inquest heard how the three-month-old was recognized by her grandmother, two days after her demise on April 11.

Maggie was born in Newcastle weeks earlier on January 10, the inquest heard. Three individuals have been arrested in reference to the incident.

A forty five-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, April 9, on suspicion of being accountable for a canine dangerously uncontrolled inflicting harm leading to demise, and was subsequently launched on conditional bail following questioning.

On Monday, April 13, police confirmed two additional arrests had been made. A 31-year-old lady was arrested on suspicion of kid neglect and being accountable for a canine dangerously uncontrolled leading to demise. A 36 year-old-man was additionally arrested on suspicion of being accountable for a canine dangerously uncontrolled leading to demise.

Both people have since been launched on conditional bail. The inquest was adjourned.
