Meta, Microsoft purge jobs amid AI build-up | EUROtoday

Social media large Meta on Thursday introduced plans to put off about 8,000 staff, or about 10% of its workforce, because it seeks to scale up growth of synthetic intelligence (AI) functions.

The proprietor of social media platforms Facebookand Instagram, together with the messaging app Whatsapp, stated in an inner memo that the primary spherical of cuts is due on May 20. Along with the cuts, Meta stated 6,000 additional posts could be left unfilled.

Also on Thursday, US media reported that tech large Microsoft was planning to supply voluntary early retirement buyouts for round 8.700 staff, or about 7% of its workforce.

Massive AI funding

The job cuts come as each firms enhance spending on growing AI functions.

Meta has introduced plans to develop “personal superintelligence,” which CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated will tailor AI brokers to the wants and needs of particular person customers.
