Dozens of firefighters have battled an enormous blaze in east London after an obvious explosion tore the roof off a home.

Eight fireplace engines and round 60 firefighters have been tackling the hearth at a terraced home in Ley Street, Ilford.

Reports of an explosion have been shared extensively on social media, with video displaying the roof and first flooring of the two-storey property on fireplace.

London Fire Brigade station commander Darren McTernan stated earlier on Tuesday: “Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire under control.

“Ley Street is closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, impacting site visitors within the surrounding space, so please keep away from the realm in case you can.

“One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene to help fight the fire from above. The Brigade’s drone team have also been deployed to the incident, offering the incident commander an aerial view of the scene.”
