The UK financial system shrank by 0.1% in January, in response to the newest official figures.

A slowdown in manufacturing was one of many primary causes for the dip, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) mentioned.

The efficiency was weaker than anticipated, with most economists having predicted the financial system to have grown within the month.

The UK authorities has repeatedly mentioned its primary precedence is to spice up UK financial development.

Liz McKeown, ONS director of financial statistics, mentioned: “The economy shrank a little in January but grew in the latest three months as a whole, with the overall picture continuing to be of weak growth.”

Construction and oil and gasoline extraction had a “weak month”, she mentioned.

But this was partially offset by retail, significantly meals outlets, “as people ate and drank at home more”, she mentioned.
