‘No Guarantees’ Americans Will Avoid Recession During Trump’s Term, U.S. Treasury Secretary Says | EUROtoday
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has declared “there are no guarantees” that Americans gained’t face a recession throughout President Donald Trump’s second time period.
“Mr. Secretary, can you guarantee the American people here and now that there will be no recession on President Trump’s watch?” NBC’s Kristen Welker requested Bessent Sunday on “Meet the Press.”
“You know there are no guarantees. Who would have predicted COVID?” Bessent responded.
He went on to inform Welker that what he can “predict” is that “we’re putting in robust policies that will be durable.”
“And could there be an adjustment? Because I tell you that this massive government spending that we’d had, that if that had kept going, we have to wean our country off of that,” Bessent added.
Elsewhere through the interview, Bessent sang praises over a current assembly with small bankers, saying, “They are ready to start lending.”
“Main Street is going to do well,” he claimed.
Bessent’s remark got here after Trump was additionally questioned final week about the opportunity of a recession.
“I hate to predict things like that. There is a period of transition, because what we’re doing is very big. We’re bringing wealth back to America. That’s a big thing,” Trump stated on “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”

Trump added, “And there are always periods of — it takes a little time, it takes a little time. But I think it should be great for us. I mean, I think it should be great. It’s gonna be great ultimately for the farmers.”
