Brother of Manchester Arena bomber ‘stabs three prison officers’ at HMP Frankland | EUROtoday
The terrorist brother of the Manchester Arena bomber is alleged to have severely injured three jail officers in a knife assault at a high-security jail.
Hashem Abedi – who’s serving not less than 55 years for the murders of twenty-two individuals within the May 2017 atrocity – threw scorching cooking oil over three officers at HMP Frankland in an assault on Saturday, in response to the Prison Officers’ Association (POA).
He then produced hand-crafted weapons and proceeded to stab the officers, who suffered life-threatening accidents together with burns, scalds and stab wounds, the union mentioned.
The alleged assault happened in a separation unit on the Category A jail in County Durham – and comes three years after Abedi was convicted of assaulting a jail officer in a high-security unit at HMP Belmarsh.
The Prison Service confirmed that three jail officers had been handled in hospital after an assault by a prisoner at HMP Frankland. One feminine officer was discharged by 4pm on Saturday.
A spokesperson mentioned: “Police are now investigating so it would be inappropriate to comment further. Violence in prison will not be tolerated, and we will always push for the strongest punishment for attacks on our hardworking staff.”
Describing the assault as “cowardly and vicious”, the POA’s nationwide chair Mark Fairhurst mentioned it displayed “the dangers brave prison officers face on a daily basis”.
He added: “Separation Centres hold the most dangerous terrorist offenders who simply do not wish to alter their ideology and as this event confirms, are determined to inflict violence on those who hold them securely.

“We must now review the freedoms we allow separation centre prisoners have. I am of the opinion that allowing access to cooking facilities and items that can threaten the lives of staff should be removed immediately.
“These prisoners need only receive their basic entitlements and we should concentrate on control and containment instead of attempting to appease them. Things have to change.”
The Ministry of Justice has been approached for extra info.
Abedi is serving 24 life sentences after being discovered responsible of twenty-two counts of homicide, tried homicide and plotting to trigger an explosion more likely to endanger life over the Manchester Arena assault, which he conspired to hold out along with his older brother Salman Abedi.
He was additional convicted in 2022 of attacking a 57-year-old jail officer within the high-security unit at HMP Belmarsh
Paul Edwards mentioned he thought he could be killed when he was set upon by Abedi, together with Parsons Green Tube bomber Ahmed Hassan and Muhammed Saeed, who spoke about finishing up a knife assault in London.
Abedi was suspected of being the “amir” or “leader” of a bunch of Islamist terrorist inmates inside Belmarsh’s “prison within a prison,” Woolwich Crown Court heard throughout the trial.
