Two members of the National Guard have been shot close to the White House, in response to officers.
Gunfire was reported on Wednesday afternoon in downtown Washington, D.C. The scene has been secured, and a suspect is in custody, in response to native police.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey recognized the troops as members of his state’s National Guard in an announcement on X. Morrisey initially reported that the 2 National Guard members died from their accidents, however later stated he’s receiving “conflicting reports” about their situation.
“Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community,” Morrisey wrote on X.
The White House is monitoring the state of affairs, and President Donald Trump has been briefed, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated in an announcement. The White House was placed on lockdown throughout the incident.
