La Grande Odyssée is likely one of the longest and most difficult canine sled races on this planet, that includes 12 levels throughout 400km of immaculate snowscapes within the French Alps. Up to 50,000 spectators line the route to observe greater than 60 mushers from the most important European mushing nations (Germany, Belgium, Spain, Norway, Poland, Italy, Switzerland and France) and their groups of canines, greater than 500 in all, as they cowl as much as 35km a day. A dozen veterinarians are available to make sure the welfare of those elite animals. Towns and villages alongside the route carry the celebration spirit with fireworks, exhibitions, igloo-building, campfires and large tartiflettes. The 2026 race takes place from January 10 to 22.
