Sir Keir Starmer being changed as Labour chief is “inevitable”, a union chief has declared. Unite common secretary Sharon Graham warned that the Government dangers “sowing the seeds of its own destruction” if his successor in Downing Street doesn’t “depart from its current path”.
Mrs Graham stated Britain is “rudderless” as she demanded a wealth tax and the scrapping of web zero insurance policies. Writing in The Times, she stated: “The doom loop cannot be broken with more austerity lite, no matter who is in Downing Street.
“Britain wants imaginative and prescient. We led the primary Industrial Revolution and we’re nowhere within the fourth. Rudderless.
“There is much agonising right now about whether, when and who should replace the prime minister. That is inevitable. But a new Labour leader with the same policies won’t cut it.
“Replacing Keir with Angela, Andy, Wes or Ed received’t persuade employees to return to the fold if they’re simply providing extra of the identical in a special voice.”
Ms Graham added: “In the approaching 12 months, if this Government doesn’t depart from its present path, it should certainly be sowing the seeds of its personal destruction.”
Unite, which is Labour’s greatest commerce union backer, has been a fierce critic of the Government together with over the winter gasoline funds coverage.
There have been reviews that the union might maintain a historic vote on splitting from Labour.
