The European statistical workplace Eurostat has introduced imminent methodological adjustments to the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP/HCP), the measure with which it estimates and compares shopper inflation in European Union international locations. From 4 February 2026 the index shall be compiled with the brand new European Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (Ecoicop v2), aligned with the United Nations Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (Coicop UN 2018). For statistical functions, the 12 months 2025 will develop into the bottom 12 months of the index, conventionally set at 100. Among the brand new options, playing shall be included within the IPCA below leisure providers, within the ‘Recreation, sport and tradition’ division. Until now they weren’t lined as a result of lack of adequate methodological harmonization, overcome by the suggestions printed in December 2024.
