Newsletter from windy France! – The Good Life France | EUROtoday

Good morning,
I hope you and yours are properly. And in case you have not seen a e-newsletter from me this yr – bonne nouvelle, glad new yr, it is a custom to say it all through the entire of January right here in France!
It’s a quiet month on the entire the place I reside, the climate adjustments from daily – we had quite a lot of snow a few weeks in the past which the canines liked (you may see them right here on Instagram – it is the final video on my day by day life highlights), then we had some sunny days, adopted by torrential rain, and an enormous storm that purchased down timber and cellphone poles. It even blew publish bins off the wall (in France we’ve small metallic publish bins fastened to a wall, typically separate from the property, we do not have letter bins within the entrance door like within the UK).
Claudette, my pretty, nonagenarian neighbor says that this bitterly chilly and fierce wind is called the Écorche-Vache – The Skinned Cow, as a result of it blows so arduous folks say that it could possibly strip the pores and skin proper off a cow (though she admits that nobody has ever really seen this occur). This icy blast roars throughout the Seven Valleys the place I reside within the north of France, bending younger timber, breaking branches, swinging the good balls of mistletoe that cling like huge baubles. It puffs foolhardy birds off track, levitates my chickens like tiny, feathered fairies, flapping and squawking indignantly, and it throws buckets of rain in opposition to home windows, whereas above the sky rages. When this mighty wind rampages by way of the village, all of us keep inside, shutters closed tight.
The Skinned Cow is rarer than the North Wind which rattles the shutters, wafts the smoke from chimneys into frenzied patterns, and spooks the canines when their fur is ruffled by invisible assailants as they take their day by day walks. The locals name the North Wind a ‘bise’ – a kiss, because it blows the rain clouds distant and kisses the sky to make it smile once more.
But already the wintry days, when the darkness of the night time appears to the touch the darkness of the morning, are rising longer, the mimosa is blooming vibrant yellow within the south and snowdrops and daffodils are pushing their heads by way of the earth within the north. And adventures await…
Wishing you an excellent weekend from a breezy little nook in northern France,
Kisses from France,
Janine,
Editor
