Trump Just Admits It Out Loud: ‘I Want To Drive House Prices Up’ For Homeowners | EUROtoday

Donald Trump drew backlash on Thursday after vowing to maintain housing costs excessive, at the same time as he promotes insurance policies he claims would enhance affordability.

Trump sought throughout a Cabinet assembly to reassure present owners who might fear that efforts to make housing extra inexpensive might scale back the worth of their properties.

“Existing housing, people that own their homes, we’re gonna keep them wealthy,” Trump stated. “We’re gonna keep those prices up. We’re not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody that didn’t work very hard can buy a home.”

While Trump promised his administration would work to decrease rates of interest and make shopping for simpler, he stated he didn’t need residence costs to fall.

“I don’t want to drive housing prices down,” he stated. “I want to drive housing prices up for people that own their homes and they can be assured that’s what’s going to happen.”

The remarks drew criticism from Democratic lawmakers and different social media customers alike.

“Are you trying to buy your first home? Trump wants your prices to go up,” Sen. Tammy Duckworth wrote on X. “But sure, Donald, keep saying affordability is a hoax.”

Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.) accused Trump of not caring about making life extra inexpensive for working households.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) stated Trump’s “number one priority has been to make the wealthy, wealthier” and to not assist younger Americans hoping to purchase their first residence.

“He’s giving the middle finger to our youngest generation,” Schumer added.

Other critics on-line argued that Trump’s feedback might additional alienate Gen Z and millennial voters struggling to enter the housing market.

Trump’s primary precedence has been to make the rich, wealthier—it has by no means been the thousands and thousands of younger Americans trying to purchase their first residence.
