Gathering collectively to learn collectively. But everybody for themselves. In silence. This is what “Silent Book Clubs” provide in varied cities in Hesse. People meet to learn in peace for an hour – after which, if they need, to speak about their books.
In Darmstadt, the “Buchhandlung am Markt” within the metropolis middle organizes a “Silent Book Club” on the final Thursday of each month. «Read in peace and but not be alone? Let your self be contaminated by the studying fever of others and immerse your self in books, with the chance to then alternate concepts with others about what you have got learn?» This is how the idea is introduced on the homepage.
In Kassel, too, e-book lovers just lately gathered within the campus library. “After a short introduction to the books they had brought with them, the 23 participants were able to immerse themselves in an hour of quiet reading together,” stated the college library.
And the Hofheim City Library invitations you to a “Silent Reading Party” on February twenty sixth. “Community despite silence: It’s a special feeling to share a space with other people where everyone does the same thing – just read,” it says on town’s web site.
