François Hommeril, president of the CFE-CGC, in Paris, May 17, 2023.

Remind the foundations and ease tensions. On Wednesday February 4, the president of the CFE-CGC, François Hommeril, wrote to his federations to attempt to extinguish the start of an inner disaster triggered by a robust part of his confederation: the Alliance police union. The latter had organized, on January 31, demonstrations throughout France, considered one of which, in Paris, attracted a number of far-right personalities, together with the MEP (National Rally, RN) Marion Maréchal-Le Pen and the candidate (Reconquête!) for Paris mayor Sarah Knafo.

Their presence, behind the banner on the head of the procession, offended many central activists. The indignation thus created accentuates the tensions induced by the present electoral marketing campaign inside the CFE-CGC, a brand new administration staff having to be appointed in June at a congress in Strasbourg.

Mr. Hommeril’s strategy is a name for calm addressed to all of his troops.
