Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has declared the sentence of Maja T. to eight years in jail by a Hungarian courtroom to be inevitable. “Maja T. belongs to a left-wing extremist group that attacked other people with batons, rubber hammers and other weapons,” Dobrindt advised the editorial community Germany (RND).

“The most serious physical injuries took place. One person suffered a fractured skull. That must lead to a conviction.” Dobrindt defended the trial in Hungary: “And since these crimes were committed in Hungary, in my view there is nothing wrong with a trial and a subsequent judgment in Hungary.”

Maja T., who was born as a boy and identifies as non-binary, from Germany is accused of, along with different defendants on trial in Germany, attacking and in some instances severely injuring a number of suspected right-wing extremists within the Hungarian capital Budapest in February 2023.

The Federal Constitutional Court had declared the extradition of Maja T. to Hungary to be illegal. According to the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office, there’s a binding assure for Maja T.’s return to Germany.
