The Co-op introduced plans to shut three shops earlier than the tip of the month, following a troublesome yr. The firm reported losses of £2.6 million.

Next week will see the closure of its retailer in Bedminster, South Bristol, which has been working for 15 years, studies Birmingham Live.

Its branches in Moggs Mead, Petersfield and Sailsbury Road, Blandford, may even shut its doorways for the ultimate time. All three of the branches will function for the final time on Tuesday, February 24.

A spokesperson for Southern Co-op stated: “As a result of sustained market changes and operating cost increases, we have taken the decision to sell three of our food convenience stores.

“This choice kinds a part of our wider efforts to optimise our retailer portfolio and strengthen our long-term working mannequin given exterior challenges and competitors.

“It in no way reflects the dedication or performance of colleagues.”

It additionally assured that it “will work closely” with workers impacted by the closures, by exploring alternatives to switch affected workers to different Southern Co-op shops.

The spokeperson added: “While this may not be feasible for everyone, we are committed to supporting all impacted colleagues throughout this process,” the rep said.

“We wish to thank our clients for his or her loyalty and apologise for any disappointment brought on on account of the choice to shut these shops.”

The supermarket also closed its New Forest store in January, with a company rep also assuring that “on no account [does it] mirror the exhausting work of colleagues” but rather the company’s “ongoing efforts to optimise our retailer portfolio and strengthen our long-term working mannequin”.
