Iran designates the “naval and air forces” of European Union member states as terrorist organizations. It is Tehran’s response to the “illegal and unjustified decision” taken final Thursday by the European Council, which included the Revolutionary Guards within the checklist of terrorist organizations, following the settlement of the Foreign Affairs Council of 29 January. This was said in a press release from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

“The decision of EU governments is contrary to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter,” reads the assertion, which cites a 2019 Iranian legislation, handed after the United States designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group, which stipulates that “all countries that in any way respect or support the decision of the United States will be subject to reciprocal measures.” On February 1, the Iranian Parliament designated the “European armies” as terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, the pinnacle of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had a phone dialog this morning to debate current developments within the Tehran-Washington talks. The two sides exchanged views on the present trajectory of the diplomatic course of and regional developments associated to the negotiations. According to Mehr, they emphasised the significance of constructive interplay and using dialogue as a mechanism to advance negotiations and attain a sustainable settlement.
