Iñaki ‘Uoho’: about Robe, his bodily collapse within the final 20 days and his new group, Rebrote | Culture | EUROtoday
On December 10, Iñaki Uho Antón (Bilbao, 61 years outdated) left his dwelling in Sopela (Bizkaia) early on his method to the hospital to bear coronary heart surgical procedure. A critical surgical procedure that was already scheduled. When he acquired into the automotive accompanied by his companion, María, his cell phone began ringing. Fito Cabrales, his buddy and former companion in Platero y Tú, known as, and it was not excellent news: Robe Iniesta, with whom Iñaki shared 30 years of friendship and music in Extremoduro, had died. “I didn’t believe it. In fact, I still don’t believe it happened,” says the guitarist. Uoho entered, fell beneath the results of anesthesia and when he felt just a little higher, already with the peace of thoughts that the operation had been a hit, he turned on his cellular phone. “I had a lot of messages and calls. I was half drugged by the anesthesia… Everything was very strange, very chaotic, very strange,” explains the musician in a gathering with EL PAÍS in a bar in Madrid’s Plaza del Dos de Mayo. At his aspect, listening attentively is Jaime Moreno (Cádiz, 39 years outdated), singer of the brand new group that Iñaki Antón has put collectively, Rebrote, and which has simply launched its first album, New outbreak.
The musician defines his final 5 years as “a cloud, a parenthesis” in his life. In 2019, Extremoduro’s farewell was introduced with a tour, in 2020 the pandemic arrived and it needed to be postponed as much as thrice; He and Robe disagreed over the administration of the tour and parted methods completely; In 2022 and whereas performing solo live shows, the musician contracted persistent covid, which stored him disabled for 2 and a half years; Last December he had coronary heart surgical procedure, and within the final 20 days he has undergone surgical procedure 5 occasions, with lung surgical procedures (which collapsed), kidney stones and issues derived from these pathologies. “From 2021 to here it is as if I had taken a leap, a small black hole. I would not like to dramatize either. In my personal life I have been with my family, with my people, but I have been absent from my work, my hobbies and my friends. They have been the strangest years of my life, without a doubt.”
In the warmth of this time together with his well being battered by persistent covid, which stored him disabled for a lot of days a month, in mattress, the connection arose with Jaime Moreno, who lives in Cádiz. “There is a German luthier there, Dieter Gölsdorf, who put us in touch. He told me that he had played music from my group, The Electric Alley, and that Iñaki really liked it. A few days later I received a email from Iñaki: ‘Hey, man, how cool you sing, what a shame you live so far away’ [risas]. I answered that Andalusia and Bilbao were well connected. So we started sending each other songs and we became colleagues,” explains the singer, who became fond of Platero y Tú and Extremoduro as a teenager.
They started slowly, patiently. A year of work, with many pauses, that produced a rock album in which the Uoho style can be recognized, with musical structures that will remind some of Platero y Tú or Extremoduro. Jaime Moreno’s voice has little to do with Fito’s or Robe’s. The Cádiz native brings a broad range, originality and virtuosity. Miguel Colino, on bass, and José Ignacio Cantera, on drums, also play in Rebrote, the same rhythmic base of the recent times of Extremoduro. “I would not say that it has been an advanced recording. It is true that it has dragged on over time, as a result of Iñaki typically was not in the most effective situation. But there was no urgency. We have loved the journey and the method,” says Jaime. Iñaki points out: “We have composed songs for individuals who prefer to take heed to music. It shouldn’t be for individuals who undergo life shortly. If we get somebody to cease the wagon and sit down and take heed to music for 40 minutes, we are going to really feel comfortable.”

One of the most notable pieces on the album is called When you are not there, dedicated to Robe, the longest, 9.35 minutes, where Moreno sings: “And the color of this blues intrudes between the seams of our history because you are not there. / And the moon has turned blue, like all the projections of my memory since you are not there.” In the opening theme, Accelerations I: of light, Manolo Chinato participates with a recitation of Lorca.
The Rebrote tour begins on March 6 in Madrid (But room), with a capacity of 1,000 people and tickets sold out. The feeling for Iñaki Antón is that of starting over for a musician who filled bullrings and soccer fields with Extremoduro. “I really feel rejuvenated,” he explains with a light in his eyes, “with enthusiasm, with enthusiasm, trying ahead to the time to rehearse, to play within the first live performance. I’ve had the dangerous half that I’ve not performed something in a very long time, however the good half is that I really need issues to occur.” There was a fear of not making it to March 6, the first performance. Uoho and the doctors doubted whether the musician’s health would be in good condition. In the last week, the recovery has accelerated and he is fit to play. “I shall be at full capability. Furthermore, since I’ve burst from all sides they usually have began to restore my organs, it appears to offer me extra life and the results of persistent covid haven’t reappeared,” he says.
Now Rebrote faces the dilemma of whether to include songs from Extremoduro in its live repertoire. “With Rebrote’s songs we fill 45 minutes, which is half of the live performance. I want to full the recital with songs by Platero, Inconscientes [otra de sus bandas] y Extrechinato and You [el disco que grabaron Extremoduro y Platero y Tú sobre poesías de Manolo Chinato, que también recitaba]. It would not appear to be the time to do a whole lot of Extremoduro, as a result of I do not really feel prefer it, it is all very latest. Although it might be opportunistic, it could not be opportune. “We are going to prepare a souvenir, a little touch to Extremoduro, but nothing more.”
The final time Iñaki Antón and Robe spoke was about three years in the past. He remembers what they mentioned, however he would not need to share it. He pauses, displays and says: “Robe and I were born in different places and from different mothers, but we have been brothers. It has gone far beyond an artistic relationship. The artistic and work relationship was not what brought us together. We started out as colleagues, we understood each other very well when the Plateros and the original Extremoduro coincided. It is a very important, very influential part of my life. We made a marriage in many aspects.” He slows down for just a few seconds and concludes: “I think what I’m telling you is so great that I don’t need to add more.”
