Soham killer Ian Huntley dies after assault in most safety jail | News | EUROtoday

Ian Huntley, the previous faculty caretaker who murdered two 10-year-old schoolgirls in Soham, died in hospital on Saturday (7 March) following an assault in a most safety jail.
Huntley, who murdered Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, had been on life help in hospital after being hit repeatedly over the pinnacle by an inmate armed with a metallic bar at HMP Frankland, Durham, on 26 February.
His life help was switched off at lunchtime on Friday (6 March) after mind checks confirmed he was in a vegetative state. He was confirmed useless on Saturday.
Murderer and rapist Anthony Russell, 43, reportedly carried out the assault. A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Ministry of Justice stated Huntley’s crime “remains one of the most shocking and devastating cases in our nation’s history, and our thoughts are with their families”.
