M61 LIVE: Motorway shut after ‘police-led’ incident | UK | News | EUROtoday

A serious stretch of the M61 has been shut this morning following what officers have described as a “police-led incident”.

The motorway is closed southbound between Junction 5 for Westhoughton and Junction 4, whereas visitors has additionally been dropped at a halt on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 4 and 5.

Emergency providers are on the scene and the A579 St Helens Road can also be reportedly shut. Long queues are already constructing in each instructions as drivers face main disruption.

In a put up on X, National Highways stated: “The #M61 in #GreaterManchester is closed southbound between J5 (#Westhoughton/ #Bolton) & J4 (#A6) due to a Police led incident.

“Traffic is stopped northbound between J4 & J5. Emergency providers are in attendance. More info to comply with. Thank you on your endurance.”
