Russian invasion: Putin broadcasts ceasefire in Ukraine throughout Orthodox Easter | EUROtoday
Russian President Vladimir Putin has introduced a ceasefire in Ukraine for the Orthodox Easter holidays. “By decision of the Commander-in-Chief…VV Putin, a ceasefire will be announced from April 11, 4:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. CEST) in connection with the upcoming Orthodox Easter holiday until the end of the day on April 12, 2026,” the Kremlin stated in a press release on Thursday. Ukraine had beforehand proposed a ceasefire throughout Easter.
Russia “assumes that the Ukrainian side will follow the example of the Russian Federation,” it stated.
The General Staff of the Russian Army has been instructed to “cease hostilities in all directions for this period,” the Kremlin continued. At the identical time, the troops are able to “counter all possible provocations from the enemy.”
In latest months, a number of rounds of talks between Russia and Ukraine mediated by the USA haven’t introduced any progress in the direction of a cessation of hostilities.
Russia has to this point insisted on territorial and political concessions from Ukraine, which Kiev sees as a capitulation and has dominated out.
