The president of the commerce fee in Strasbourg, the German Social Democrat Bernd Lange, stated on X: «Donald Trump’s plan to impose 25% tariffs on European vehicles is unacceptable. The European Parliament continues to respect the settlement (…) While the European Union retains its guarantees, the American facet continues to fail in its commitments (…) The European Union should now keep readability and firmness.”

Reacting to the news from Washington, the European Commission said: «The European Union is implementing the commitments made in the Joint Declaration in accordance with standard legislative practice. Should the United States adopt measures that do not comply with the joint declaration (signed last summer in Scotland, ed.), we will reserve the right to act to protect the interests of the European Union.”
