Just Stop Oil has “paused” its road-blocking protests to give Rishi Sunak’s Government time to consider its responsibilities. The eco-group temporarily suspended its campaign of civil resistance yesterday but vowed to “escalate” demonstrations if the Prime Minister does not meet their terms.
In a post on Twitter, Just Stop Oil said: “From today, Just Stop Oil will pause its campaign of civil resistance.
“We are giving time to those in the Government who are in touch with reality to consider their responsibilities to this country at this time.”
The social media update was accompanied by a 90-second video which has been viewed more than 50,000 times.
During the clip, Just Stop Oil activists added: “If we receive no response from Ministers by the end of Friday, November 4, we will escalate our legal disruption against this Government.

“Our actions will be proportionate to the scale of this crisis.”
The eco-warriors’ ultimatum comes after 32 days of consecutive action by Just Stop Oil activists, including causing disruption on the QE2 Bridge and throwing a can of soup over a Vincent Van Gough masterpiece.
The group also sprayed orange paint on the MI5 building, the Home Office and the Bank of England on Monday.
Activists descended on Whitehall yesterday but were met by a large number of Metropolitan Police officers near Trafalgar Square and Downing Street.

In a social media post, the capital’s constabulary said: “Met Police are aware of protesters in Whitehall/Downing Street and are on the scene and dealing.”
Ex-London Mayor candidate Shaun Bailey even urged Sadiq Khan to combat Just Stop Oil’s disruption.
Mr Bailey, who lost to Mr Khan last year by around 230,000 votes, told TalkTV: “Sadiq Khan should be doing more and the police should step up.”
